Robson highlights Manchester United problem for winter transfer window

Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has said that the winter transfer window will be crucial for the Red Devils, considering they have made a poor beginning to the current campaign. The Mancunian giants have already made their worst-ever start to a Premier League season and they are currently in the lower half of the standings with just nine points on the board.

In an interview with ESPN, Robson has said that the Red Devils are likely to find it hard to pursue new recruits at the turn of the year but they have no other choice, considering the shambles at the opening phase of the season, he told: “I always think it’s really difficult to find top class players who are prepared to leave a club and join a club in the January window. Normally you have to wait until the summer to add really quality players. But United have got to work at that, because we know that we need to improve to be where Manchester United want to be, so January’s going to be an important part of the season.”

Maguire believes he can form a defensive partnership with Lindelof

Manchester United’s summer signing Harry Maguire has said that he can form a strong central defensive partnership with Victor Lindelof, though it would require some time. The England international has been a valuable addition to the Red Devils backline but that has not necessarily improved the clean sheet tally with just two from the opening five games.

Speaking to MUTV, Maguire said that partnerships are built by playing games and he has shared the playing field with Lindelof on just five occasions, he told: “You have to realise partnerships are built on playing games and we have only had five games. We will get better. I will understand him more and he will understand me more. There probably will be times when we can do better but we will continue to work hard on the training pitch and that is really important to build relationships around the pitch – not just me and Victor. It is really important, as a defence, to keep a clean sheet.”

Rashford says Solskjaer has brought back Manchester United’s identity

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has said that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has brought back the club’s identity after blooding a number of younger players during the pre-season campaign. The Red Devils have remained unbeaten in their five friendly games this summer and there have been plenty of positives with several young players getting the chance to impress.

Speaking to MUTV, Rashford said: “The identity is there. It doesn’t leave, you just have to find it within yourself. We have to come together as a team to show people what we’re capable of. This season, especially, I think we have to concentrate on ourselves and play like we’re enjoying our football. We’re in an exciting position. There are a lot of young players and there are a lot of hungry players and I think that’s important. Hopefully we can take this momentum into the season. We have to keep improving.”

TalkSPORT pundit urges Manchester United to part ways with duo

TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has said that Manchester United should part ways with Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku this summer and utilise the funds for the squad rebuild. The Red Devils have changed the focus to pursuing young players for the summer transfer window but there has been some disruption with the uncertain futures of Pogba and Lukaku.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Cascarino said that both Pogba and Lukaku are great assets to the team but they have the tendency to be inconsistent. He added that the duo can command huge transfer sums in the market and the club should sanction their sales to initiate a rebuild which may require a minimum of two transfer windows.

Kelly says Pochettino could be lured to United or Madrid in the future

Former Tottenham Hotspur star Stephen Kelly believes manager Mauricio Pochettino could make the potential switch to Manchester United or Real Madrid in the future, should Spurs continue to struggle to win trophies. The north London outfit made it all the way to the Champions League final last season but they could not cross the final hurdle after a 2-0 loss at the hands of Liverpool.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Kelly indicated that Spurs need to win something in the next few seasons or else, they could find Pochettino being lured by the possibility of managing the likes of Real Madrid and United, he said: “From a Tottenham point of view, his longevity at the club will mean him needing to win something at the club to stay there.

Mourinho critical about Solskjaer’s tactics against Barcelona

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has said that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got the tactics wrong during the Red Devils’ recent European trip to Barcelona. The Red Devils suffered a slender 1-0 defeat to Barcelona during the home leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie, and they could not overcome the deficit at the Camp Nou, where they were thoroughly dominated.

Speaking on RT Sport, Mourinho said that Messi was allowed too much space during the course of the double-legged quarter-final. He added that the Argentine was carefully guarded with a zonal marking system at Old Trafford, but that was not the case on the road, where Messi got the better of the United defence from a deeper position.

TalkSPORT pundit says Manchester United made a crazy decision to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Talk SPORT pundit Craig Burley believes Manchester United made a crazy decision to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the permanent manager before the end of the campaign. The Norwegian was initially appointed by the club on an interim basis in mid-December, and the club’s transformation over the course of the next three months convinced the board to appoint him as the permanent head coach.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, former Chelsea star Burley does not feel United made the right choice to recruit Ole, given they require an experienced manager at the helm to rebuild during the summer. He added that the club were perhaps indulged into a sentimental claptrap with regards to Ole with the majority of the supporters wanting him as the permanent boss.
