A lot of Manchester United fans expect manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his players to seriously fight with Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title and they would have been disappointed with the Aston Villa result last weekend.

Manchester United on TV was a feature for the Villa game which ended in a defeat for Solskjaer and his players. They were favourites for the game but didn’t live up to that status as Villa were good value for the win thanks to the goal for Kourtney Hause in the last quarter of the game. He produced an unstoppable header off the corner kick from Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz to score the only goal of the game.

The Villa defeat led to a lot of questions and criticisms as doubts were raised over the ability to challenge for the Premier League title this season at Manchester United. Solskjaer and his players will need to answer some of those questions and doubts when they take to the field for the first time since the defeat on the Premier League scene. Manchester United has been in action since the defeat but it was in the Champions League and they needed a late goal to see off Spanish opponents Villarreal. Manchester United on TV was also a feature for that Villarreal game which was the repeat of last season’s Europa League final.

Manchester United had to rely on Cristiano Ronaldo to score in added time to beat Villarreal 2-1 at home. The Red Devils were far from convincing and Villarreal should have gotten a win or at least a draw from the game after Spanish international PacoAlcacer gave them the lead eight minutes into the second half. The preserved the advantage for just seven minutes before Alex Telles responded for Manchester United on the hour mark. Villarreal wasted a lot of opportunities both in the first and second half. To this effect, they have themselves to blame for ending the game in defeat.

Solskjaer and his boys were far from convincing against Villarreal and they will need to improve on that performance if they want to return to winning ways in the Premier League ahead of the visit of Everton who are a different team under new manager, Rafael Benitez, in comparison to the end of last season. Only time will tell if Manchester United will bounce back against the Toffees on Saturday lunchtime. Manchester United on TV will also be a feature for the Everton game, which is the first of the ten Premier League games billed for this weekend.
